Decide what the view needs to show

An overview of a yard is different from a view intended to show detail at a doorway. Distance, lens, angle, lighting and motion all affect how useful the recording will be; a resolution label alone does not settle the choice.

• Identify the area and the event you need to review.
• Consider glare, darkness, weather and changing conditions.
• Review mounting height, obstructions and service access.
• Agree on areas to exclude from the view or mask for privacy.

Plan the recording as well as the camera

Storage requirements depend on camera count, bitrate, recording mode and retention. The target should be agreed before selecting the recorder and drives, then checked against actual recording behavior.

We also review PoE availability, switch connections, cabling and recorder access. A recording plan should address who can view, export and delete footage, and how important clips are retained separately when needed.

Check what was recorded

Acceptance should include playback and an example export, not only a live picture. Representative lighting conditions and the purpose of each view determine the checks included in the project.

The handoff can identify camera locations, names, storage settings and administrator roles. Existing camera or cable reuse is considered after compatibility and condition are reviewed. Monitoring and incident response remain separate responsibilities.
